Fire Damages Spartanburg Building Day After Eviction

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A grass fire turned into a structure fire for the Spartanburg Fire Department early Friday morning.

Fire officials received a call to a grass fire in the Cammie Claggett neighborhood just after 4 a.m.

Dispatchers advised while they rushed to the scene the fire spread to a couch outside and threatened a building.

When the first crew arrived they found a fire climbing up the side of a duplex into the attic.

Hilltop and Arkwright Fire Departments were called in as backup, along with additional City fire units.

The couch and other belongs were outside the building because the landlord evicted a tenant the day before the fire.

Those items were destroyed. The building suffered smoke and water damage.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Fire Marshal’s Office would like to speak to any citizens who may have been near the area between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.

Call 864-596-2083 if you know anything.
