A Laurens Police officer has been charged with shoplifting in Spartanburg.
Stacy Oneil Williams, 38, is charged with shoplifting at a value of $2,000 or less after the incident at Dick’s Sporting Goods at Westgate Mall.
The Spartanburg Public Safety incident report says Williams went to the sporting goods store Friday morning. He asked for a Field and Stream Prime Time Lite Extreme Tree Stand.
The stand was found with the help of a store employee and placed on a shopping cart. Williams then went to the rear of the store and purchased a pair of shorts with a store card at a cash register in that part of the business.
The officer says Williams then purchased some candy at the other register and waived the other receipt to indicate he’d paid for the tree stand.
Store employees tried to confront Williams in the Westgate Mall parking lot, but he drove towards one of the workers – according to the incident report – and sped away from the area on West Blackstock Road.
Williams was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center Monday evening and was released according to the jail website.
