Donnie Betenbaugh turned himself in to US Marshals in Greenville Monday morning, according to his attorney.
Authorities are holding him at a local jail until a decision is made on where he will be incarcerated.
His attorney requested Edgefield, but a decision hasn’t been made.

Former Union county supervisor Donnie Betenbaugh heads to prison Monday.
He will be serving his 18 month sentence.
Investigators say Betenbaugh solicited bribes, destroyed evidence and even allowed drugs to be sold and stored at a county office.
Betenbaugh pleaded guilty to one count of extorting a kickback while in office.
Sept. 21, 2010:
Judge Henry Floyd sentenced the former Sheriff of Union County Tuesday morning at the Federal Courthouse in Spartanburg to 90 days in jail followed by three years of supervised release.
He must pay a $5,000 fine and $2,500 restitution.
Howard Wells pled guilty to lying to federal investigators. He was immediately taken into federal custody
Wells was propelled into the national spotlight in 1994 when Susan Smith confessed to him she had strapped her young sons into their car seats and let the car roll into a lake. Smith originally said the boys were taken in a carjacking.
In the same courtroom former Union County Supervisor Donnie Betenbaugh was sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by three years probation. He must take part in a substance abuse program.
Betenbaugh pleaded guilty to one count of extortion after originally facing 41 corruption-related charges. He will report to US Marshal's custody on Monday at 10am in Greenville.
In addition, Willie Randall, Junior, the former county tax assessor was sentenced on conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamines to 4 years and 9 months in prison followed by four years of probation. He has to take part in a drug treatment program and was immediately taken into custody.
