A Clemson man is behind bars after police say he was spying on women in the bathroom.
Police say 23 year old Milton Brian Benson, followed two girls into a Clemson University Residence Hall.
Police say several people asked Benson why he was in the dorm, but he had no answer. When police showed up they say they found Benson sitting on the tenth floor.
Benson, who is not a Clemson student, is being charged with burglary, trespassing, and peeping tom.
Anne Miller-Adams lives in Manning Hall where police say Benson managed to sneak inside.
"We didn't think it was that big of a deal, but when you really step back and think about it, it's pretty serious," Miller-Adams said.
Police say Benson was roaming around the women's residence hall.
one witness reported seeing him peeping into showers.
"It's a little concerning that people can get into the building so easily," Clemson student, Taylor Shook said.
The problem Clemson police say isn't residence hall security. Police say the swipe system is safe. But students aren't being vigilent enough when it comes to who they let inside.
"It's something that we make folks aware of. We tell the folks to be aware as they go into the hall that someone isn't tailgating right behind them," Clemson University Police Chief Johnson Link said.
Link says the University dealt with a similar incident last year where a man was caught trying to break into a women's dorm.
Link says the only way to avoid another repeat situation is for the students to do their part by making sure the door is always securely locked behind them, and never let a stranger inside.
"People need to know whose coming into where they live and, sleep," Link said.
Something Miller-Adams says she agrees with.
"I don't let anyone walk in with me unless I know them personally and when I come in I shut the door behind me," Miller-Adams said.
Students say they just hope their fellow students have learned their lesson, and are more careful about letting people slide in the door behind them.
Milton Benson is currently being held at the Pickens County Detention Center.
