The Gateway to College program allows students who dropped out of high school to re-enroll at Spartanburg Community College and further their education.
When students enroll in this program, they'll be taking classes they need to both finish their high school degree and start a college degree. The books are free and other expenses are paid. Students are only asked to pay a $35 dollar enrollment fee per semester. Students must be ages 17-21 and live in the Spartanburg area.
"It's a real second chance for them to catch up and to get started with college," said Eugenia Hooker, the program director.
Hooker said each student has a lot of one on one help, including a resource specialist who can talk with each student.
"This is the person that is their mentor their instructor, person if they have academic difficulties, additional resources," said Hooker.
Students must take an entrance exam and write a series of essays to enroll, but students say it's a small price to pay for getting your degrees.
