Wednesday 10:53 a.m. Update
Greenville County’s Fire Marshal says they’ve determined where the fire started, but don’t know exactly what sparked the smoke and flames. Jeff Nelson says the fire started in the attic space above the garage, but they don’t know the exact point or origin. Nelson says that they did find some arcing in the electrical system, but cannot say definitively that is what caused the fire. Nelson tells us the family said they didn’t remember hearing the smoke detectors going off. We’re told the family was pleased they were able to recover a large of personal effects from the home after the fire. Reporting by Mary Lu Saylor
The fire started around 11 a.m. at a home on Rosebay Drive in the Dove Tree community in Greenville County. The family, who was home at the time of the fire, managed to escape with the assistance of a neighbor, who grabbed a ladder and raced to help.
They were able to climb up onto the roof of their home and George Genero was walking outside of his home and heard glass breaking.
He ran to see what was going on and was able to bring a ladder he borrowed from his neighbor over to the home and the family climbed down. Fire Marshal Jeff Nelson confirms that the home belongs to Greenville musician Emile Pandolfi.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The American Red Cross is assisting the Pandolfi family.
The Music Club of Greenville has started a fund at the Palmetto Bank to help the Pandolfi family. The name of the account is under Pandolfi Family Fund.
