A man from Hendersonville was arrested after authorities say he robbed a gold store and became involved in an altercation with the cashier.
The incident happened Friday night at the We Buy Gold store at 619 Asheville Highway in Hendersonville.
Hendersonville Police Chief Herbert Blake said that officers responded to the store at 8:19 p.m. after dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about an armed robbery in progress. Blake said that a store clerk called dispatchers after Mostafa Kamel Hendi, 25, entered the store, approached the counter, showed the clerk a gun that was in his waistband and demanded money.
Fearing for his safety, the clerk fought back and punched Hendi several times in the face and removed the gun, which turned out to be a pellet gun. Once officers arrived on scene, they entered the store and placed Hendi under arrest.
During a search of the area, officers found Hendi's Ford Focus parked in a nearby parking lot with the keys in the ignition, Blake said.
Hendi is being held at the Henderson County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
