A long-serving member of the state House of Representatives says he won't run again to represent his district in the North Carolina mountains. Rep. Phil Haire says he won't seek an eighth two-year term in the General Assembly next year. He has been a lawmaker for 13 years representing Jackson County, and has one year remaining in his current term. The 75-year-old Democrat from Sylva says he'll continue to practice law part-time. He's also looking forward to spending more time with his wife, who retired from a leadership job at a Macon County community college earlier this year. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press.
