Highway Patrol Out In Full Force This New Years

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Law enforcement is counting on you to make the right decision this holiday and stay away from the driver's seat if you've been drinking.
They'll be out in full force this new years holiday and every trooper in SC will be on patrol.

Mark Vestico has seen 19 New Years holidays from behind the wheel of his checker cab.

In fact it’s his busiest day of the year and he tells us he wouldn't have it any other way.

“Quite a few times they've told us we've saves them a DUI,” he said.
A DUI is expensive his customers said. “Around $5,000 and up and they'd rather pay just 20 bucks versus a DUI,” said Vestico. Highway Patrol is stepping up enforcement this weekend like no other time of the year.

They guarantee each Upstate county will have DUI checkpoints.
So you can expect to see blue lights and Law Enforcement making stops to make sure your not putting others in danger.

In years past when New Years Eve isn't on a weekend, traffic fatalities stay low. last year though, troopers saw eleven deaths.
They said making the correct choice could save lives.

"Your best case scenario this weekend is if your simply stopped and charges with DUI if you choose to do it, think about the other side or other families you could affect," said Lance Corporal Bill Rhyne.
