City and company officials are holding a public meeting to discuss a recent fertilizer plant fire in Hartsville. Officials from the Agrium Rainbow plant are meeting Thursday with city employees and emergency services personnel at Center Theater in Hartsville.
Officials plan to give an update on the fire and answer residents' questions. No injuries were reported from the fire that started Feb. 14. About 50 people worked at the plant. Hartsville Mayor Mel Pennington says city officials planned to meet with state Commerce officials and representatives from Gov. Nikki Haley's office to help former employees find new jobs.
ORIGINAL STORY POSTED FEBRUARY 15TH: Firefighters in the Pee Dee are putting out hot spots on what was a massive fire at a fertilizer plant in Hartsville.
The fire started Monday night around 7:00 p.m. By early Tuesday morning crews were still dealing with a smoldering mess as they got the flames under control.
Several neighborhoods were evacuated. By 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, about 60 people had been allowed to return home.
The federal government will test the water in the area Tuesday.
No one was hurt. The cause is still under investigation.
