Gaffney Police officer Erik Mowery was released from jail on bond and has resigned from the force after his arrest on a felony DUI charge.
Chief Rick Turner said Mowery resigned Saturday. The officer had been employed by GPD since March 2009.
He was a patrol officer and was not assigned to a special DUI team according to Turner. The chief says Mowery had no prior problems.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT team is investigating a single car crash on Union Street in Gaffney where the driver, Gaffney Police Officer Erik Mowery has been charged.
The wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. Saturday involving a 2002 Honda. The car was traveling north on Union Street went off right side of road and struck a utility pole. The Highway Patrol MAIT team was called in to investigate.
A passenger, William Boyce Peeler of Gaffney was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Peeler is in fair condition according to the hospital.
Officer Mowery appeared battered and bruised as he sat before the judge Saturday night. Mowery was hurt in the wreck but was treated and released from the hospital.
A Cherokee County magistrate set bond at $20,000. The Cherokee County Detention Center says Mowery was released Sunday night.
Mowery's first court appearence will be in July.
