Mauldin City Council took the first step in forcing clubs and bars inside the city limits to quit serving alcohol after 2 am.
At Monday night's City Council meeting, council members unanimously passed the first reading of the proposed ordinance, while would permit such businesses as Hailee's Sports Bar and Grille, from serving alcohol after 2 am. A second reading of the proposed ordinance is required and will take place at their next meeting in July.
Last Friday, the owner of Hailee’s Sports Bar and Grill on Woodruff Road said that his bar stays open to 5 am and by state law, he can continue to sell beer and wine after 2am. He said that he believes city leaders are targeting him because of recent shootings in his parking lot and the change would impact his business.
The city’s six other bars would not be affected by the ordinance because they close at 2 am.
