A computer security breach at USC Sumter may have exposed personal information for all who work and those retired at all eight campuses. This affects 31,000 faculty, staff, students and retirees says Margaret Lamb USC spokesperson.
A letter sent to the individuals says the incident was discovered in January on a USC Sumter computer server. The letter goes on to say the university does not believe anyone's information was compromised. Lamb says there were two separate mailings because the information being analyzed.
The university has a hotline set up set up for those affected who have questions along with offering resources for contact the various credit reporting agencies.
This is not the first security breach of the computer system. In 2007, social security numbers, names, and grades of nearly 1500 current and former students were accessible over the internet for months.
