Dr. Thomas Moore, Winthrop’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, will be the new chancellor for the University of South Carolina Upstate. He starts August first.
USC President Harris Pastides says Moore is the ideal choice, because of his extensive background in higher education, knowledge of the state, and his commitment to excellence as a professor and administrator.
“Tom Moore will be a dynamic, inspirational leader for Upstate,” Pastides said. “He is passionate about education and has a deep understanding of its vital role in shaping personal and intellectual growth, enhancing quality of life, and driving economic development. His knowledge of South Carolina and the challenges that our state faces will allow him to make a smooth transition into his new role as a leader of one of the nation’s emerging metropolitan universities.”
In addition to Winthrop, Moore also taught at Georgia Southern College, Birmingham-Southern College. He’s also served on committees of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies Programs.
