A plane lost a wing, but no one was injured after an emergency landing along a Greenwood County road.
The plane landed at the intersection of Mount Vernon Road and Flint Hill Church Road in the Troy Community near the Greenwood-Edgefield County Line.
Highway Patrol is handling the crash.
Jim Peters of the FAA says they received a call about the crash landing at 2:47 p.m.
The aircraft, a light sport aircraft, was traveling through Augusta, Ga., in communication with Augusta Control Tower and following visual flight rules, Peters says.
After the plane, a Flight Design CT model, took off, Peters says the pilot called Augusta Control and reported a “rough running” engine.
Later, the pilot called and said he was experiencing engine failure and going down.
Two people were on board when the plane made it’s crash landing. A wing snapped off on a guy line of a nearby utility pole.
Peters did not know who was on the plane when it landed but said the plane belonged to Randall Hollister of Pawley’s Island.
Flightaware.com shows the plane was traveling from Brunswick, Ga., to the Greenville Downtown Airport.
