Fletcher police have charged a former assistant baseball coach with "assault on a sports official" after they say he punched a 16-year-old umpire in the face during a little league game.
The fight took place in front of young children and their parents this past Saturday at Fletcher Park in Henderson County.
Both the former coach and the umpire's family say they have witnesses to back up their claims of who started what.
It will be up to a judge on July 28th to decide who started the fight.
The former assistant coach, 37-year-old Samuel Cody, was arrested after the fight Saturday.
Investigators say Cody was arguing with another umpire, when the teen stepped between them and was punched.
News Channel 7 has learned the two umpires are brothers.
Authorities say fans then got involved, creating a larger fight.
No serious injuries were reported.
Cody refused to comment on camera Tuesday night. But told us off camera--he has hired a lawyer, and plans to defend himself in court.
The president of the youth baseball league in Fletcher said the actions wont be condoned and Cody will likely never return as a coach.
Authorities have told him to stay away from the park.
