Previous Story Tuesday, November 8:
A case unsolved - a family still searching for answers.
Ten years after the murder of a Cherokee County man, officials are highlighting the case, hoping to bring in new leads.
Investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spent the day Tuesday handing out thousands of flyers to drivers in the neighborhood where William Buck Spencer was killed on November 8, 2001.
Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller hopes the effort will bring in tips.
"It's important to us, because we know that somewhere in our community, there's a murderer walking around, and we have to bring some justice to this family and to our community by trying to close some of these cold cases,” said Sheriff Mueller.
As the investigators pounded the pavement - a family is searching as well. Terry Spencer, Buck Spencer’s son says he’s hoping for some kind of closure.
"After ten years, it's kind of settled in, but it's not the settled that you would want to come to you,” said Spencer. “I'm just asking for a little justice is all I'm asking for."
Spencer is hopeful the spotlight can only help.
"I would like the public to help us, that's all I'm asking, just somebody step forward," he said.
There is a 2500 dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. If you have any information, you’re asked to call the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 864-489-4722.
CRACKING COLD CASES
This case is just one of about ten cold cases the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is trying to solve. They'll be highlighting several of these unsolved cases throughout the year.
Capt. Mark Vanderburg, who works with these cases, says they’ll be revisiting the evidence to try and find any new leads.
"Try to find some of the old witnesses, interview those people again, see if they remember anything that they may not have told us before," Vanderburg explained.
