UPDATE: Investigators Release Sketch Of Man Thought To Be Police Impersonator

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another possible police impersonation incident.

Deputies say it happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in Greer near Phillips Road and Gibbs Shoals Road.

A woman says she was driving on Phillips Road when she passed a black SUV that was possibly a GMC Envoy. She said that the vehicle turned around and came up behind her while activating blue lights – that appeared to be in the interior - and a siren.

The victim tried to call law enforcement to verify the traffic stop before she pulled over, but the other vehicle stopped following her and turned around.

GCSO investigators haven’t determined if this incident is related to any similar ones they’re examining.

A sketch of the man was released Wednesday by Spartanburg County investigators.

He is described as a clean-cut white male about 30 to
35-years-old with a crewcut. He stands around 6-foot-4 and weighs around
280 pounds with a muscular build.

Earlier this week, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s deputies reported a police impersonator attempted to get money from a driver he stopped near Wellford.

The SCSO report says a man was driving north on Highway 29 near Interstate 85 Monday when he noticed a dark blue Tahoe was following him.

The man said the vehicle had blue strobe lights in the grill and he stopped around 4:00 p.m.

The man says the driver of the Tahoe approached him and said there was something wrong with his license tag. The driver of the Tahoe was described as a stocky white man who was 6’3” to 6’4” and weighed 270 to 300 pounds.

He was told he could pay the Tahoe driver, but the man said he didn’t have any money with him.

The Tahoe driver then told him to leave. The police impersonator drove away in the direction of Duncan.

The driver who was stopped drove to a convenience store and called the sheriff’s office.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says he believes Monday's stop is related to a stop last Wednesday night on Nazareth Church Road where a bogus cop reportedly pulled a woman over and then raped her.

Meanwhile, Greenville County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a reported police investigator from early Monday morning, but there's no reason to think that incident was related to the Spartanburg incidents.

A woman says she was driving on East North Street around 2:30 a.m. when a vehicle behind her had flashing white lights in the grill.

She pulled over at Ramblewood Apartments and said the car stopped before pulling around her. She said there was no further contact, but she did see the driver of a black two-door Chevrolet Malibu.

He was described as a black man in his late 20’s who was wearing a white long sleeved t-shirt.

GCSO investigators say there’s no evidence to show this was linked to the incident in the county or reports in Spartanburg County.

If you have information that may help investigators in any of these cases, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
