One man is dead after a high speed chase on Friday night.
A Greenville County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle they thought maybe Patrick Dean Lowrance driving late Friday evening.
They attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle fled. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says a chase began with speeds over 100 Miles Per Hour. When the speeds got that high they backed off because it was not safe. Then a short time later the vehicle was spotted off the road in a wooded area.
South Carolina Hwy Patrol Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne says that the wreck happened around 6:50 PM on Henderson Ave at Fork Shoals Road in Greenville County.
The driver of a 2004 Crown Victoria was going East on Henderson Avenue trying to elude law enforcement when they lost control of the car and struck multiple trees.
Greenville County Coroner Jeff Fowler says the driver of the vehicle was 33-year old Derik Smith from Greeneville.
He died on the scene from Blunt force trauma as a result of hitting multiple trees with his vehicle.
Toxicology results are pending. It is not known why he ran from the Sheriff’s Office.
