One man is dead after a collision between a car and bicycle in Spartanburg County late Wednesday afternoon.
According to Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision happened at 4:30 p.m. on Southport Road at Pin Oak Lane, about one mile north of the town of Pacolet. The driver of a Chevrolet four-door sedan, identified as 62-year old Wallace Tucker, of Union, was traveling south on Southport Road while a cyclist, identified as 48-year old Bobby Scott Spencer, of Pacolet, was riding his bicycle south on Southport Road. The car and bicycle collided and Spencer, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bicycle.
Chief Investigator Randy Bogan of the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office said that Spencer, of Pacolet, died as a result of the collision. Tucker was not injured.
Edgeworth said that the collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol's MAIT team. Bogan said that an autopsy is pending due to the investigation.
