A man from Cowpens was arrested after authorities say he fired several shots inside a residence after eating bath salts earlier in the day.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies arrested 31 year old Patrick Lindsay Powell and charged him with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and using a firearm while under the influence.

According to a report obtained from the Sheriff's Office, a deputy responded to 104 Seagle Drive just after 5 a.m. Sunday morning after a Cowpens Police Officer requested backup. When the deputy arrived, he found the Cowpens Police Officer taking cover behind her police car and she explained that several shots had been fired from inside the residence. Two additional shots were fired just shortly after the deputy arrived and the deputy stated that he could see a side window had been shot out in the home.

Several more deputies responded to the scene and the report states that they identified Powell after running the license tag on the vehicle in the driveway. A short time later, deputies used a P.A. system to order Powell to surrender and he complied.

The report states that Powell told deputies that someone had attempted to break into his residence earlier and that a dead body was in a back room of the home. Deputies did not find a body or anyone else inside the home.

A Neighbor told deputies that they heard shots coming from inside the residence for two hours and yelled at Powell to stop because she had two small children asleep and did not want them to be awakened. The neighbor said that after yelling at Powell to stop, she heard another shot and heard something strike her home. The woman took shelter inside her home and called police. The officer responded to the scene and heard several shots and called for backup.

After being taken into custody, Powell was transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for evaluation. During the course of the evaluation, Powell, who deputies say was sweating and turning red, stated that he had eaten bath salts earlier and had taken valium and drank "high gravity" alcohol.

He is currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on $40,000 bond.
