Laurens County deputies are trying to solve a rash of recent burglaries, where the thieves made off with dozens of guns, expensive jewelry, electronics and cash. Deputies are investigating at least four breakin's in the Durbin community of Fountain Inn.
"These guys knew what they were doing," says Lt. Keith McIntosh. McIntosh says none of the victims were home at the time of the incidents, which happened in the middle of the afternoon. All returned to find their homes ransacked.
The biggest stash of loot came from a home on Durbin Church Road, where the thieves made off with a gun safe, weighing at least 600 pounds. Deputies located the safe later near the Laurens and Spartanburg County line, but at least two dozen guns were missing from inside. "We're concerned these guns are on the street now, and might end up in the wrong hands," says McIntosh.
He estimates more than $20,000 in items was stolen. So far, investigators have no leads.
