A bill that would make it illegal for hunters to hunt waterfowl within 200 yards of homes on Lake Keowee advanced in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
According to our news coverage partners at the Anderson Independent-Mail, the purpose of the bill is to protect homeowners on the lake. Rep. Bill Sandifer of Oconee County lives on Lake Keowee and sponsored the bill in response to concerns from a constituent.
"The 200 yard buffer passes the test of reasonableness," Sandifer told the Independent-Mail.
Violators would be charged with a misdemeanor and could face a fine of up to $200 or a jail sentence of up to 30 days.
