Man Accused of Holding Son Out of Window, Running from Deputies

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Johnny James Edwards, Jr. faces charged for burglary, unlawful conduct towards a child, and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Deputies say the situation started Tuesday night at a home on Ridgefield Circle in Easley. Jacqlyn Smith called deputies and told them her child's father, Edwards, was trying to break into her home.

Investigators say by the time deputies got there, Edwards entered the home, hit Smith in the head, and took their young son, 2-year-old Grant Edwards.

Deputies tried to block Edwards in, to keep him from leaving, but they say Edwards held the boy out of the car window, to get deputies to back away. When they did, Edwards took off.

Dispatchers talked Edwards into surrendering, but they say Edwards ran again, and this time, ended up in Greenville County.

Department of Natural Resource Officers showed up at the Greenville location, but they say Edwards became frustrated and took off one more time.

Pickens County deputies were able to reach Edwards, and finally talked him into giving up in the Dacusville area.

Both mom and the child were taken to the hospital, but should be ok.

Edwards was arrested and booked into the Pickens Detention Center.
