The Henderson County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a request to place an alcohol sales referendum on the ballot for the May primary.
The proposal would allow citizens the opportunity to vote on whether or not alcohol sales in non-incorporated parts of the county should be allowed.
Monday night's vote follows the board's approval last summer to send the issue to a public vote.
This will be the first time the issue is in the voters' hands since 1955.
Separate ballots will be cast on beer and wine sales, liquor sales at ABC stores and liquor by the drink in restaurants according to our coverage partners at the Hendersonville Times-News.
Those sales are currently prohibited in non-incorporated parts of the county, since Henderson itself is a dry county.
