A University of South Carolina student from Greenville died early Saturday morning.
Columbia Police officials said that 21-year old Zachary Robinson was pronounced dead at Richland Memorial Hospital just after 1 am.
According to an incident report, two witnesses told officers that they and Robinson had returned to their residence just after midnight and Robinson seemed to be very intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs. The report further states that Robinson was unsteady on his feet, "zombie like" and "really messed up." The men told officers that they went to look for Robinson after they did not see him for 10 minutes and they found him lying in his bed and his body began to turn various shades of colors.
The two men then told officers that they attempted to wake Robinson, but he made a gasping noise and then vomited. Officers say the men then grabbed Robinson and took him to a car and drove him to the hospital where he later died.
The report states that the Richland County Deputy Coroner said that a pre-autopsy did not yield any result of foul play. However, investigators returned to the off-campus residence due to the possibility that narcotics were involved.
Robinson was a junior at USC where he was a Civil Engineering major and member of the SAE fraternity. He was a 2009 graduate of Greenville High School where he was an all-region selection for football and lacrosse.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Family will receive friends prior to the service.
