A strong cold front arriving late Friday night will bring back the cloud cover and also a chance for precipitation.
Right now it looks like the northern mountains in NC will see some light accumulations beginning after midnight and ending by mid-afternoon Saturday (northwest facing slopes finding the best chance for the highest accumulations).
For all other areas this will be a quick chance for some scattered light snow.
The central mountains will see the possibility of some rain showers changing over to snow showers overnight Friday into early Saturday with little accumulation.
The extreme northern Upstate – i.e. areas north of I-85 – will only see a stray snow shower possible early Saturday blowing in with the strong northerly winds behind this front.
All moisture will clear out and the only travel difficulties possible if everything stays the same will be in the northern mountains near TN.
A hard freeze will be on the way for all areas by Sunday night.
