A wrestling coach from a Spartanburg County school has been placed on administrative leave after being tased and arrested in downtown Greenville.
David Joshua Bush, 27, was arrested Jan. 29 by Greenville police officers and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to the department's spokeswoman Alia Urps.
Bush is a physical education teacher at Campobello Gramling Elementary, and he's also the head wrestling coach at Chapman High School in Spartanburg County District 1.
Urps says an officer described Bush and his group of friends as rowdy, and asked them to leave the G Spot in downtown Greenville because it looked like a fight was about to break out.
The group left, but a few minutes later the same officer spotted them near the General Mast Store, Urps says.
Urps says the officer again asked the group to leave, but she said Bush refused and began getting loud again. An officer attempted to arrest Bush for disorderly conduct, but Urps says Bush resisted.
Urps says four officers and a taser were needed to subdue Bush, who was eventually arrested and booked at the Greenville County Detention Center.
Bush reported his being arrested to Spartanburg School District 1 the day after it happened, and he has been put on administrative leave, according to the district's spokeswoman Cathy McMillan.
McMillan said Bush's future with the district will depend on the outcome of the district's internal investigation and on the legal disposition of the case.
Bush is due in Greenville City Municipal Court at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
