She pleaded guilty to stealing mail from Spartanburg County homes, now Teresa Miner Grell is headed to prison.
A judge in Anderson sentenced Grell to 15 months.
Grell was first arrested by Spartanburg police, when she tried to pass a stolen and altered check at First Citizens Bank. In her car, officers found 81 stolen envelopes, a computer, check stock and other counterfeiting items. Officers also found handwritten notes containing the names, dates of birth, and social security numbers of multiple individuals. Some of the stolen checks had already altered by Grell to make them payable to herself.
Investigators say Grell also stole mail from people in Cherokee County prior to her arrest, and people in Hart County, Georgia, after her arrest.
Law enforcement estimates that Grell passed several thousand dollars worth of counterfeit or altered checks before she was arrested.
