A retired Greenville County teacher will spend 121 months in prison for possession of child pornography.
Julian Ray Wates, 64, of Greer will also have supervised release for life according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Wates was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Anderson.
Prosecutors say an Illinois law enforcement officer logged onto a file sharing program that belonged to Wates in August 2010.
These were files designated by Wates for distribution to others interested in child pornography according to the U.S. Attorney.
The officer downloaded 31 files and discovered images of child in various states of undress and performing sex acts.
Wates computers were seized in South Carolina. The examination of the computer revealed hundreds of images and videos of children under the age of 18 engaged in sexual activity.
