Motorists will encounter a new traffic pattern on Monday evening, February 13, as construction progresses on the I-385 Widening Project in Greenville County. SCDOT and the Lane Construction Company plans to switch the collector road traffic from Butler Road South to the new concrete pavement. The switch is necessary for Lane to continue paving concrete from Bridges Road South and to begin the construction of the noise wall. The process of moving the traffic switch will occur at night. Drivers choosing to use Butler Road South are encouraged to drive with caution. Once the shift process is complete, traffic will continue to flow through the lanes with traffic control devices placed between the traffic land and construction zone. If the weather is poor Feb. 13 - Feb. 14, the work will be completed during the same timeframe on the next weather permitted day. This traffic configuration is expected to be in place until Mid-March of 2012. The I-385 Widening & Rehabilitation Project is a planned four-phase project that started December 2010, with an expected completion date of November 2012. The project consists of widening I-385 to six lanes from north of the I-385/West Georgia Road interchange at Exit 29 to south of the I-385/Woodruff Road interchange at Exit 35, for a total widening length of 5.5 miles. The project also includes repaving I-385 from south of Woodruff Road to south of Roper Mountain Road, Exit 37, resulting in a total project length of about 7 miles.
