Easley City Council approved the first reading that would allow the purchase and consumption of alcohol at a pair of city locations.
Easley Mayor Larry Bagwell said the vote passed by a 5-2 margin at Monday night's council meeting. Bagwell said it will need to pass a second vote at next month's council meeting before it becomes part of the ordinance.
The current alcohol ordinance limits the purchase and consumption of alcohol to beer and wine on city sidewalks and public property. By passing the amendment to the ordinance, city council would allow the sale of beer and wine at special events open to the public, as well as private events held on public property.
The next scheduled meeting is March 12.
