A winter weather advisory continues until noon for areas of western North Carolina from Haywood County westward, and for Rabun County in Georgia. Light precipitation Tuesday morning will be falling through air temperatures around freezing, leading to a wintry mix of freezing rain, some sleet, and some higher elevation snow flakes. Some small accumulations of snow, sleet, or freezing rain will be possible...with slick roads the main hazard. This will change over to light rain later Tuesday morning as temperatures climb.
As for the rest of the area, the Upstate will see just light rain today, although a few folks might see a very brief patch or two of sleet this morning. The mountains outside of the advisory area may still see more of a wintry mix this morning, but right now it should be light enough to keep issues to a minimum. As we gradually warm through the morning, light rain will continue to be possible area-wide.
Precipitation winds down this afternoon, with dry weather overnight. We'll continue with some clouds, and look for areas of fog later tonight and into Wednesday morning.
Once we burn off the fog, Wednesday should turn out sunny and warmer.
Our next system arrives Wednesday night into Thursday with a chance for rain. Temperatures remain mild.
We're also watching another system for the weekend...right now timing out in the Saturday night to Sunday time-frame. The exact track and timing of this system may yet shift, which could have a major impact on the weekend forecast...but right now the best bet is for a chance of rain in the Upstate, with the potential there for some mountain snow. Still plenty of time to watch this one.
