Tens of thousands of gallons of raw sewage spilled into an Upstate creek late last week, according to public works officials.
The Greer Commission of Public Works says a grease blockage caused 35,000 gallons of waste to overflow into a tributary of Frohawk Creek, near Office Depot on Wade Hampton Boulevard Thursday.
On Friday, another 10,000 gallons was spilled downstream on the same sanitary sewer line.
Greer officials say state health officials were notified and the clean-up is complete. However, they say people are urged to avoid contact with the water downstream of the spill site.
If you have any questions about the spill, call Greer CPW at 864-848-5500 or the Greenville EQC Office at 864-291-1090.
