Union County Sheriff’s Deputies say an inmate attacked a guard, punching him in the face and eye several times.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on February 13 an inmate, Jimmy Henderson, 31, was upset that the telephone system wasn’t on in the jail. Officer Raymond Valles told Henderson to go back to his cell, but deputies say he refused and took a “fighting stance.” The report says Officer Valles tried to calm Henderson down, but he hit him in the face several times. Valles managed to get the inmate on the ground and hold him until he calmed down. Doctors treated Valles at the emergency room.
Henderson is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
