Four Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies have been involved in a shooting in the Chestnut Ridge sub-division in Inman.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said that deputies responded to 208 Lenderman Drive around 5 p.m. Saturday night in response to a welfare check. Wright said that a man left a note at his sister's home earlier in the day stating that he was going to kill himself.
Fearing for the man's safety, Wright said that the deputies entered the home and were fired upon. Wright said that the deputies returned fire at the man, possibly striking him twice. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The identity of the shooting suspect and his condition has not been released pending family notification.
None of the deputies were injured as a result of the incident. Their names are not being released at this time and as standard procedure they have been reassigned from their current duty until an investigation into the shooting is completed.
The State Law Enforcement Division has been called to investigate the incident.
