The winter storm warning Tuesday for counties along the North Carolina/Tennessee border has expired.
The snow has tapered off but slick roads remain an issue. Total snow accumulations, including what fell overnight, come in at around the three to five inch range, mainly in the higher elevations.
Locally higher amounts could be measured on some peaks. One to three inches of total accumulation may be seen in some lower elevations in these areas.
Expect the slick conditions to remain thanks to remaining snow.
Gusty winds and cold air will mean dangerous wind chill readings, especially in the higher elevations.
The City of Asheville has announced winter weather conditions have delayed garbage and recycling collection Tuesday. Sanitation crews are operating on a delayed schedule this morning due to the slippery road conditions.
If road conditions do not improve throughout the day, residents are requested to leave their trash out at curbside for crews to collect as soon as road conditions improve. Brush collection and leaf collection will be on hold as well until weather conditions improve.
High pressure builds in today, meaning plenty of sun for the Upstate...with
clearing skies in the mountains after lingering morning snow showers dry up.
Breezy conditions will remain, adding an edge to the chill that will be in
place; most Upstate locations won't get out of the 30s this afternoon, with the
mountains staying in the 20s. Winds will decrease overnight, with very cold
conditions expected under clear skies.
We should see quiet weather through the rest of the week with a steady
warming trend that could have us close to ten degrees above average by Friday.
Clouds will thicken on Saturday with our next storm system, providing rain
chances from Saturday...mainly in the afternoon and evening through early
Sunday.
