Cowpens Man Dies In Spartanburg County Wreck

A man from Cowpens is dead following a wreck in Spartanburg County.

Corporal Bob Baras of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that the wreck happened at 5 p.m. Wednesday night on Highway 11, near Foster Road in Inman. According to Baras, the driver of a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, identified by the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office as 54-year old Stephen Scott Blackwell, of Cowpens, was driving north on Highway 11. Baras said that the truck went off of the Highway and struck a ditch, then it struck a fences, some bushes and then a tree.

Spartanburg County Coroner's Office investigator Dwayne Corn said that Blackwell was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unknown whether Blackwell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, according to Baras.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Coroner's Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
