If you're looking for French fries and a pizza square you’ll be waiting in the lunch line at Bryson Elementary for a while. The school uses fruits, veggies and the CATCH program. That's Coordinated Approach to Child Health.
At lunch students get a variety of foods and learn about good nutrition.
But it's more than just eating one balanced meal a day said Physical Education instructor Anne Duncan.
In Greenville County most students only get 45 minutes of Phys Ed a week.
But Duncan ramps that up to about 150 minutes a week with exercises they can do at their desk and in the classroom.
Duncan tracks students' weight and height in elementary, middle and high school and she can compare it over time.
She encourages them not to obsess over one or the other but she said when they see how their healthy habits affect their bodies, it's more likely to stick.
Duncan says moving more and watching what you eat will help squash our nations obesity epidemic. One step at a time.
