A man is dead after the moped he was driving crashed on Seminole Drive in Spartanburg County late Saturday afternoon.
According to Lance Cpl. Billy Elder of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at 4 p.m. at the intersection of Seminole Drive and Seneca Street. Elder said that the driver of the moped was traveling north on Seminole Drive when he lost control and ran off the left side of the road. The moped then struck a culvert and then hit a tree, ejecting the driver.
The coroner identified the victim as 44-year-old Ryan Keith Philson, from Spartanburg. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Elder said the victim was not wearing a helmet and the accident is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
