South Carolina’s unemployment rate fell to 9.5 percent in December, the lowest figure in three years. The Department of Employment and Workforce reported Tuesday the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped 0.4 of a percentage point from November’s 9.9 percent rate. This marks the fourth consecutive monthly rate drop and is down 1.6 percent from 2011’s high of 11.1 percent in August. The last time the jobless rate was this low was the 9.2 percent recorded in December 2008. The national jobless rate is 8.5 percent. There were month-to-month increases in trade, transportation and utilities plus manufacturing. Manufacturing has increased 11,600 from last year. Here are the unemployment figures for counties in the Upstate: Union – 15.5% Cherokee – 12.9% Abbeville – 10.4% Greenwood – 10.4% Newberry – 9.4% Spartanburg – 9.3% Oconee – 9.2% Laurens – 8.9% Anderson – 8.8% Pickens – 8.2% Greenville – 7.4%
