A new "Virtual One-Stop" website debuts Monday, Aug. 30th to make it faster and easier for people looking for work in South Carolina to find a job.
The website, www.SConestop.org, will serve the same function as the state Department of Employment and Workforce's 38 offices around the state. But the new Web site means jobseekers will be able to search all the other job search engines in one place, instead of having to go to multiple sites and entering their resume or information over and over.
It will also be accessible 24 hours a day from any computer or Smartphone.
"We just feel that the Virtual One-Stop is more user-friendly, so people will be more likely to use it from home, from the library, through a BlackBerry," says Courtney Nowak, with the SCDEW's Workforce Development Program.
She says there's also a feature called "Virtual Recruiter", which lets you save specific job searches and then have the computer automatically run them again for updates every day or every week.
"It will go out into the Internet, look for jobs that meet my needs or that meet my criteria and bring them back to me and send me a message either through email, text message for me to go out and look at those jobs and find out if that's something I'm interested in and want to apply for," Nowak says.
That sounds like a huge improvement to Saerah Ferguson. She's been unemployed for a year and has to come into her local Workforce Center to do job searches on the computer without knowing whether there are any new offerings she's interested in.
"Like how I came here and the computers is, had to wait on the computer. That'd be more convenient. I'm sitting at home, you know, calling and look, I got a text message on my phone. So that is a little bit more convenient," she says.
The Virtual One-Stop also has tools for employers, to make it easier for them to find the people they need to fill open positions. The "Virtual Recruiter" will work for them, too, by constantly checking for new resumes posted on the site that meet the requirements of the job.
"We believe that the South Carolina Virtual One Stop is the most robust tool available to South Carolinians to match employers and job seekers," Nowak says.
