I hate to say it, but I’m glad March Madness is coming to a close. After all the build-up and excitement of the games, I’m already looking forward to next year. Why? Because my Pitt Panthers lost Saturday night. Blah!
If you’re a Clemson, Duke, (UNC plays OU after this blog is written, so Tarheel fans might be in the same boat), or whatever fan, the majority of the excitement for the Final Four has dissipated.
It’s not to say I, (we) won’t be watching the games or rooting for other teams, but that “specialness” of the games is gone. Sort of like the day after Christmas when you’re looking at that non-refundable initial embroidered, purple, brown, and orange sweater you were given. You’re consumed with “what if?”, and “next year will be different.” But next year won’t be much different, unless you’re one of the chosen few fans whose teams somehow always win or your great aunt is a purchaser for American Eagle Outfitters.
Yet when November rolls around and college basketball begins again, your excitement will come back. That “specialness” of competition will fill your veins. You’ll fill out your brackets and have your team winning it all. That “specialness” may only be present until tip-off of game one, but it will be back.
So, until next year, forget about the loss and enjoy the Maddness for the next few days.
