Spartanburg Works With Cherokee To Spay/Neuter Animals
Published: August 5, 2008
The Spartanburg and Cherokee County Humane Societies have partnered to ensure that Cherokee residents have access to the same low-income spay/neuter services as Spartanburg County pet owners.
For Cherokee County residents, the money to subsidize these surgeries will come from South Carolina’s No More Homeless Pets program, funded by the sale of special spay/neuter vehicle license plates. The cost of sterilization for dogs and cats is only $15 (including microchip) for qualified pet owners whose pets are current on vaccination. Low cost vaccinations are available if needed.
To receive the discount, pet owners must confirm proof of eligibility by presenting at least one of the following: Food Stamps/EBT Card, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid/Medicare Card, or proof of low income.
Interested pet owners can leave a message at a local Gaffney number, 864-487-4757, with their name and a telephone number where they can be reached and a SHS staff member will call them back within 24 hours. The SHS clinic can be reached directly by calling (864) 583-4805, ext. 115. More information about the benefits of spay/neuter can be seen by clicking here.
The Spartanburg Humane Society’s everyday prices are the lowest in the upstate. Pet owners who are not eligible for the low-income discount still pay only $25 for male cats, $40 for female cats, $50 for male dogs and $55 for female dogs. These prices also include free microchip identification.
