Christians Rally for “I Believe” License Plates

» 12 Comments | Post a Comment

Upstate Christians spoke out Tuesday night for the right to put the Cross on their cars.

Several hundred people turned out for a rally at the People’s Baptist Church in Greer, and they got support from some political heavy-hitters. Lt. Governor, and potential Gubernatorial candidate, Andre Bauer spoke out on his support of the “I Believe” license plates, as well as Attorney General Henry McMaster. McMaster is also a potential Gubernatorial candidate.  The plate is currently caught up in the court system, and a federal judge ordered the state DMV to stop making the tags. Opponents say the plates violates the separation of church and state. But those at tonight’s rally say their rights are being ripped from them.

Does any body else think that a person belonging to a minority religion might potentially be targeted for harassment (or worse) if they broadcast their religious affiliation on their license plate?  What would have happened to Muslim license plate holders after 9/11?  Maybe Christians should think about how members of their faith in the Middle East would be feel if everyone else had a MUSLIM license plate.  I know that most people in this area are Christians, a religion that I respect but do not belong to.  It’s hard for the majority here to understand how it feels to be ‘outside’.  Please don’t make license plates a symbol of who ‘believes’ and who doesn’t!

While that is your choice to not have the same belief as those such as I, you must remember it is a “choice”. You have that free will to choose. And also you must remember, the tag is just for the ones who “choose” to have it. We all have to make choices in life. God, rather you believe in Him or not, gave us that free will to do so…

If you feel it is separation of church and state…explain special tags for teachers, national guards, personalized plates, etc….Our country was founded with Christain beliefs. And why should we be discrimated against…think about it…even atheist believe in God, if not, how could they deny His existence.

I agree! And it isn’t like we would be getting them free, we have to pay for them. So why should anyone care. If they want a tag of their own, let them have one made up.

I think that Christians know exactly what your talking about .  What you’re saying is anyone can say anything they won’t but , but we cannot have a tag that expresses our faith or our views .  The state prints a variety of tags for universities and colleges, not everyone supports these institutions .  The state prints a vanity tag that you can put anything you want on them as long as it fits on the Tag. I’m concerned at some people saying they are a Christian then sayiny, if we take the cross off the tag that it would be OK. Of course it will be OK because it is no longer a tag that says I am a Christian, it says I’m just like the rest of the world so what’s the point . The point is, to tell Christians that they should be silent and not say anything that draws attention to their faith,  they should stay out of politics or anything political, and that’s not true. We have the same right to speak out as any other part of the population in this state or nation .

Keep in mind that the seperation of church and state was designed to protect the church from the state not the state from the church.

You’re not hearing what I’m saying. The plate is a good idea, but, unless there are plans for everyone else who wants a different plate, there has to be a stopping point. I am also a christian and understand your views. It’s possible that most of those who are totally against the plate is the fact there is a cross on it indicating a specific religion. Maybe leaving off the insignia and only haveing the words more people would look at it differently. Then they couldn’t say it was geared to one group.

I am a Christian . I feel my rights and freedoms have been taken away slowly. If other groups and people have the right to say what they think and feel, then i should be able to also. this country was founded on freedom of speech. It is slowly taken away every day , because you might “ offend “ someone.  I think i have every right to pray, talk about GOD , and display a tag of what i believe if i want to. I hope that we can get the tags. i’ll be PROUD to put one on my car.
