Text Messages Save Fire Department Thousands

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The Taylors Fire Department says text messaging is saving them money.  The idea started when firemen started asking about using their cell phones instead of pagers when they are off-duty.

Starting last week, the department began sending texts when they want to request that off-duty firefighters report to a scene.
All but 6 or 7 firefighters turned in their pagers, and that means a savings of $345 a month and more than $4,000 a year.

Fire Chief Bobby Baker says requests for off-duty firefighters happen about 10 to 12 times a year.
