Homeowners aren’t the only ones feeling the need to Go Green. An Upstate hospital system decided to do the same. Now, it’s not only in the business of saving lives, it’s saving the planet too.
This story comes to us from a viewer email who says they’re doing their part to help save the environment and help save some money.
Brian Little works for environmental services at AnMed Health in Anderson. The cardboard he’s talking about is some of the 600-700 pounds a day that could be tossed out,but is now recycled.
“It’s just the right thing to do, its best for the environment and AnMed Health wants to be a leader in the community,” says Little.
Paper, plastic, even large industrial cans…as the largest employer in Anderson County, they are doing their part from the kitchen to the basement
“We’ve been filling up two and a half of these a week just with our dietary area,” Little said.
He also says it was the employees who got AnMed Health to start going green to save green.
“They wanted to know their options for recycling and that’s how we got started looking into it.”
“We produce about two million pounds of general trash a year and most of that is recyclable,” explains Executive in Residence Bart Reeves. He saw a light at the bottom of the recycle bin.
“We started looking into a partnership and we think we can keep five, six even 700 thousand pounds out of the landfill by recycling.”
Ever Green Recycling and AnMed Health…They are just two Upstate businesses that are going green to save green.
