Go Green Shrubs
Go Green ShrubsWith temperatures in the 90s and sometimes triple digits in the summer, turning that thermostat down is essential to stay comfortable. We have some ways that will help you cool off in your house and in your wallet.
Summer can be downright hot here in the Carolinas. That’s why it is so important for you’re A/C unit to be working properly. But how do you keep it running while keeping the power bills down and keeping the A/C high? This week, Go Green Save Green has it made in the shade.
Trees, plants, shrubbery…all things that make your yard look good and also keep your power bills down.
Just by adding energy efficient landscaping to your home, you can cut your power bills in half. In fact, these A/C units, by putting some shade over them, that will cut 10 percent of your energy costs. If just 10 percent of the homes in the Carolinas would do this, we would save 14,000 tons of CO2.
In our sometimes humid climate here in the Carolinas, it’s important to have deciduous trees, the ones where the leaves fall off seasonally. In the summertime, you let those cool breezes cool off your house and in the winter when the leaves fall off, let the sun shine through to heat it up.
Shrubbery! Made popular by Monty Python, but very important to help cool your house. When you have shrubs and ground cover near these hot surfaces that heat up during the day, it can actually help to cool your home which saves you money in the long run.
