N.C. Camps Deal With H1N1 Outbreak

  It is camp as usual despite 47 confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu at a North Carolina boy scout camp.  Camp Daniel Boone is located in Canton, North Carolina in Haywood County.  The first cases were confirmed on June11th after a troop from Florida arrived with some campers complaining of flu like symptoms.
    According to the Henderson County Health Department, they have 4 confirmed cases of H1N1 and 10 probable cases at two different camps in that county.
  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention procedures, all those who have symptoms and tested positive are in isolation for 7 days from the time they started showing signs. Once their symptoms subside, they will remain in isolation for 24 hours, then allowed back into camp.
Children are not being sent home from the camps.  However, health officials tell parents if your child is experiencing flu like symptoms they should stay home, so they can prevent any further spread of the H1N1 flu.  Camp leaders at Camp Daniel Boone says it is doing daily temperature checks and it has had no new cases this week.  If you would like more information on symptoms of the H1N1 Flu and what you need to look out for click this link.
