COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Officials say a manufacturer of disposable baby diapers is moving into a former South Carolina textile plant, creating 260 jobs in a rural county suffering from high unemployment.

State and Marion County officials said Tuesday that Softee Supreme Diaper Corp. plans to move into the former Fabric Resources building in Mullins. The Georgia company plans to invest $6 million
and begin production by late October.

The company plans to employ 262 people over the next four years.

Softee president Collin Brown says the move will allow the company to “tap into a strong, available labor force.“

Marion County had the state’s third-highest unemployment rate in August, at nearly 21 percent.

Softee Supreme is working with technical colleges to screen and train new employees.
